Which authors put the “boo!” in books? Here’s what our Facebook fans had to say…
What is Halloween without a few scary good horror stories? As we tick down the days until October 31st, we asked our Facebook fans to name the authors who’ve thrilled and chilled them with the most terror-inducing tales from the dark side. Here are your favorite fright writers:
5. Dean Koontz
Anne Rice’s supernatural stories and best-selling The Vampire Chronicles have haunted us for years. . .and they gave us Brad Pitt as a vampire. Can’t argue with that.

3. Clive Barker
At age four, Clive Barker witnessed a man fall to his death during an air show. Was that the start of his obsession with the morbid? It’s difficult to know for sure, but regardless, his fiction keeps our Facebook fans up at night, and has spawned some classic horror movies including Hellraiser and Candyman.
From heartbeats drumming beneath the floorboards to ravens quothing “nevermore,” Edgar Allan Poe continues to reign as the granddaddy of frightening fiction.
1. Stephen King
Having penned 55 novels and 200 short stories. Stephen King is king of horror writing. Our Facebook fans cite Pet Semetary and Christine as two of their favorite creepy reads. Why do we love to read his scary stories? We’ll let King answer that one himself: “We make up horrors to help us cope with the real ones.” Scary!
