On April 22, 1970, renowned anthropologist Margaret Mead inaugurated the first Earth Day. It was founded by Wisconsin Senator Gaylord Nelson to raise public awareness of how pollution threatens and destroys the environment. Since its beginnings, celebrations continue to grow on a global scale each April to raise awareness and spur humans into taking action to save our planet. So today we celebrate with the earth-friendly wisdom of a Native American proverb that advises to take care of the earth before it’s too late.
